Day 2
The cool thing about prayer is – you don’t have to know what to do to get it right, just talk. The Bible describes Jesus in Proverbs 18:24 as “a friend that sticks closer than a brother”. So when we pray, it’s just that: talking to a very close friend. My favorite quote regarding prayer is: “prayer is a conversation between two people who love each other” (Rosalind Rinker). So, it really is talking with a friend who cares for you, and wants the best for your life.
Prayer seems to come naturally to almost everyone when they are in crisis mode, but if that is the only time you spend time praying – you are missing out on the friendship Jesus desires to have with you. No matter the time of day or night, you can call on Him in prayer and He will listen to you.
Prayer is so many things and can take so many forms. It can be repeating a scripture verse that thanks God for His mercy or reassures you of His faithfulness. It could be a list of people you ask God to help in life or a simple praise for what He has done in your life. It can be in a time of panic or a time of reflecting on your day. A smile, a tear, eyes shut or eyes open…just you and a friend.
Try committing yourself to the practice of prayer – even when things are going smoothly, even when you feel like you’ve got it all under control. In prayer, He will lead you by the hand into His very presence and walk beside you every step of the way.
*...but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. Proverbs 18:24 (NIV)
...I will never leave you nor forsake you. Joshua 1:5 (NIV)*
**Challenge: Begin a habit of spending 5 minutes a day in conversation with Jesus Christ ...in prayer.**
